Removing Spanish Bluebells
Sandy Dell, Widley Waterlooville

In May we will continue removing invasive Spanish bluebells from Sandy Dell to allow native bluebells to be planted, adding to the 1,000 bulbs we have already planted there.  We have had several sessions there and the number of Spanish bluebells remaining is much reduced.

We will concentrate on removing the remaining Spanish bluebells and hybrids from Sandy Dell and the grass area on the other side of the stream.  If we have sufficient volunteers, we will move on to the other side of Privett Road.  We need to ensure any plants we do not dig out are deadheaded to stop seeds from spreading.

We have a few garden forks although, depending on the number of volunteers, it may be helpful if you could bring your own.  We have some weeding forks and trowels.  Please bring gardening gloves and a kneeling pad would be useful.  Boots or stout shoes are recommended.
