Removing Invasive Species
Sandy Dell, Widley Waterlooville

Our main jobs will be to dig out several self-seeding laurel trees and, if time permits, take out other invasive shrubs.  We also need to dig out some ground elder to allow the English bluebells we planted to be seen.

We will take the opportunity to check the path through Sandy Dell is clear.

Meet at the corner of Widley Gardens and Privett Road at 9.30am.  Parking is available in Widley Gardens.

Boots or stout shoes are advised.

We welcome new volunteers, so if you would like to join us please come along.  You do not need experience of conservation work and there is no obligation to attend every task.  Please refer to the FAQs or use the Contact Us form to request more information.

Removing Spanish Bluebells
Marrelsmoor Coppice, Purbrook Waterlooville

We will start by digging out Spanish bluebells from the side of the footpath at Marrelsmoor Coppice with a view to replacing them with some more English bluebells.

That should not take the whole morning, so we are likely to either move on to The Bog to maintain the fruiting hedge or carry out some general maintenance at Penjar Pond.  If we have sufficient volunteers we may do both.

Meet at Marrelsmoor Coppice (opposite the One Stop in Purbrook) at 9.30am.  There is a public car park off Ladybridge Road.

Boots or stout shoes are advised.

Removing Spanish Bluebells
Sandy Dell, Widley Waterlooville

We have removed a total of 26 bags of Spanish bluebells from Sandy Dell and we have planted 1,000 English bluebell bulbs there.  We would like to plant some more, but before we can do that we need to remove any remaining Spanish bluebells and hybrids.  There should not be many left and they will be in flower, so it ought to be easy to tell the difference between the two species although full instructions will be given.

We would like to take the opportunity to remove Spanish bluebells from the side of Privett Road and the wooded area next to Widley Gardens so that they can also be replaced.

In the unlikely event that we run out of Spanish bluebells and hybrids we can continue with the removal of other invasive species.

Meet at the corner of Widley Gardens and Privett Road at 9.30am.  Parking is available in Widley Gardens.

Boots or stout shoes are advised.
